American Samoans are members of the military units serving on the front line in both Iraq and in Afghanistan. Our troops sacrifice so much for our freedoms, they deserve our respect and admiration for that!
Just like any other close knit community, we all know a soldier or know someone who does. They are members of our families or our extended families. This page is dedicated to them!
American Samoa has given so many soldiers to our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In fact, American Samoa's congressman published a report in the spring of 2009 which indicates that American Samoa has the highest fatality rate per capita of any other state or territory in the union. At the time, 17 soldiers from American Samoa had died during their service in Iraq. This report, which was published in USA Today, said that the death rate for American Samoa was twice as high as the US Virgin Islands, another US Island Territory.
